Software you use vs a service that files for you
TinyTax is software. You search for your company, mark the period as dormant, enter the balance sheet figures, and TinyTax produces the documents for you to submit to Companies House and HMRC. Its confirmation statement is pre-filled from the public register for you to review, sign and file.
SimpleFilings is a service. You answer plain questions, we prepare the filing, check it, and submit it once you approve it. You pay £4.99 for each filing you make.
The Company Tax Return is the big difference
TinyTax's yearly plans cover both your accounts to Companies House and your CT600 to HMRC. Its Dormant plan, £20 a year plus VAT, includes a dormant CT600.
SimpleFilings does not file Company Tax Returns. Our dormant accounts service files your accounts with Companies House only. If HMRC has sent the company a notice to file a Company Tax Return, that return still has to be filed, by you, your accountant or software such as TinyTax.
If HMRC has not asked for a return, you can tell HMRC the company is dormant. SimpleFilings can do this for £4.99. It does not file or withdraw a CT600 that HMRC has already asked for.
Comparing the confirmation statement
TinyTax lists its confirmation statement at £74 per company, per year, including the £50 Companies House fee. Its page says £50 goes to Companies House and its software fee is £24. Its confirmation statement page does not mention VAT.
At SimpleFilings you pay £4.99 plus the £50 Companies House fee, included in the total, which is £54.99. If the current 12 month payment period has already been paid, no further £50 is due, and we check this before filing.
Worked example: one year for a dormant company
A dormant company usually files one set of dormant accounts and one confirmation statement each year.
- TinyTax: £20 plus VAT (£24.00 including VAT) for the Dormant plan, plus £74 for the confirmation statement, which includes the £50 fee. The Dormant plan also covers a dormant CT600.
- SimpleFilings: £4.99 for the dormant accounts, plus £4.99 and the £50 fee for the confirmation statement. £59.98 in total. No CT600 is included.
- Filing both yourself on Companies House WebFiling: £50 in total. A CT600, if HMRC asks for one, is separate.
Identity verification
Every director must verify their identity with Companies House before a confirmation statement can be filed. TinyTax's confirmation statement page did not mention identity verification or personal codes on 6 October 2026.
SimpleFilings does not carry out identity checks or issue personal codes. Directors verify for free through GOV.UK One Login, or through an ACSP, and give us their personal code when we file the confirmation statement.
When another option may suit you better
- HMRC has asked your dormant company for a Company Tax Return. TinyTax's Dormant plan includes a dormant CT600. SimpleFilings does not file Company Tax Returns.
- Your company trades and you want to prepare and file its accounts and CT600 yourself. TinyTax's trading plans cover both. SimpleFilings offers qualifying dormant accounts only.
- You file for several companies. TinyTax lists a Portfolio plan for 2 to 3 companies at £99 a year plus VAT, with larger plans above that.
- You are comfortable doing the filing yourself in software and would rather not have someone else prepare it.
