The sums, filing by filing
Dormant accounts: File Dormant Accounts charges £8.99. SimpleFilings charges £4.99. The difference is £4.00. Companies House does not list a fee for filing annual accounts, so neither option adds a government fee here.
Confirmation statement: File Confirmation Statements charges £9.99 plus the £50 Companies House fee, so £59.99 in total. SimpleFilings charges £4.99 plus the same £50 fee, so £54.99. The difference is £5.00.
A dormant company filing both in one year would pay £68.98 with the two sites, or £59.98 with SimpleFilings. That is £9.00 apart. Neither competitor page says whether VAT is included in its price, so we have not added or removed any.
According to GOV.UK, the £50 fee only applies to the first confirmation statement in each 12 month payment period. SimpleFilings checks this before filing and does not charge the fee again if it has been paid. The File Confirmation Statements page does not say how it handles this case.
What File Dormant Accounts and File Confirmation Statements include
File Dormant Accounts says its £8.99 covers full dormant accounts preparation, submission and confirmation, with no hidden fees and no CT600 upsell. It promises same-day submission and says most dormant accounts are accepted within minutes.
File Confirmation Statements says its £9.99 covers preparation and submission, and that all of the £50 statutory fee goes to Companies House. It asks you to get your personal code and authentication code from Companies House first. It also says that if you need to change directors, shareholders, PSCs, the registered address or SIC codes, you must update those records directly with Companies House before submitting the statement.
File Dormant Accounts and File Confirmation Statements each say they will resolve the issue or give a full refund if Companies House rejects the filing, and each offers free reminders. Both competitor sites show the same ICO registration, HMRC anti-money laundering supervision and Companies House ACSP numbers.
What SimpleFilings includes
Every filing costs £4.99. The total price includes applicable government fees. There is no subscription.
For dormant accounts, you review the accounts, confirm the full period was dormant and approve the filing before it is sent. You can file dormant accounts online for £4.99.
For a confirmation statement, we check that all current directors have verified their identity and linked their personal codes to the company. You can also tell us about SIC code changes, share transfers and capital details as part of the statement. Director, PSC and address changes need a separate filing.
The same account handles other company changes, such as directors, PSCs, registered office and shares, plus HMRC filings such as telling HMRC the company is dormant. Each is the same fee.
Who each option suits
- A dormant company that only needs its yearly accounts or statement, and wants a refund promise and reminders: File Dormant Accounts or File Confirmation Statements fits well.
- A company that needs the yearly filings plus the odd director, address or HMRC change: SimpleFilings keeps them in one account at one price.
- Anyone who wants to check and approve each filing before it goes: SimpleFilings builds in a review-and-approve step.
- Anyone confident with the Companies House service: filing yourself costs only the government fee.
When another option may suit you better
- They publish a full refund if Companies House rejects the filing. We have not included a matching promise in this comparison.
- They promise same-day submission and say most filings are accepted within minutes.
- If you only ever need dormant accounts or a confirmation statement, a single-purpose site may feel simpler.
