What Companies Made Simple offers

Companies Made Simple's confirmation statement page lists three ways to file. The Confirmation Statement Service costs £89.99 plus VAT, and its team prepares and files the statement for you. The Express option costs £99.99 plus VAT and is filed within 24 hours, excluding weekends and bank holidays. Both include the Companies House filing fee.

There is also a do-it-yourself option. Their system fills in your existing details and you only provide the changes. The Companies House fee is included. When we checked, the page showed this price as "+VAT" without a base figure, so we have not quoted one. Check the price on their page before you order.

For dormant companies, they sell a Confirmation Statement and Dormant Company Accounts bundle for £149.99 plus VAT. They prepare and file both, and the Companies House fee is included. It covers companies limited by shares and limited by guarantee.

They also offer a company secretarial service for £149.99 plus VAT a year. It covers up to ten changes per company per year, including the confirmation statement, officer changes, share transfers and a name change. They say requests are carried out within 48 working hours, excluding weekends and bank holidays.

What SimpleFilings offers

SimpleFilings charges £4.99 per filing. There is no subscription. For a confirmation statement, we show you the company details on the register, you confirm or update them, and we file once you approve.

The total price includes the £50 Companies House fee when due. You only pay it with the first statement in each 12 month payment period, and we check whether it is due before filing. All directors must have completed Companies House identity verification and have their personal codes.

For a dormant company, we can also prepare qualifying dormant accounts for a director to approve, for £4.99. Companies House's published fee list has no fee for filing accounts.

Worked example: a dormant company's yearly filings

  • Companies Made Simple bundle: £149.99 plus VAT, with the £50 Companies House fee included.
  • SimpleFilings: £4.99 for the confirmation statement + £4.99 for the dormant accounts + £50 Companies House fee = £59.98.
  • Confirmation statement only: Companies Made Simple £89.99 plus VAT, or SimpleFilings £4.99 + £50 = £54.99.
  • If the £50 fee has already been paid in the current 12 month payment period, there is no further Companies House fee. Ask any provider how that affects a price that includes the fee.

Who each option suits

Companies Made Simple suits people who want an expert team to prepare and file for them. Its yearly secretarial plan can make sense if you expect several changes in a year. It also suits people who want phone support and a 24 hour express option on working days.

SimpleFilings suits company owners who know their details, are happy to approve each filing, and want to keep the cost close to the government fee. You pay £4.99 only when you file.

When another option may suit you better

  • Companies Made Simple is better if you want a phone line to call during office hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm) and a help centre.
  • Companies Made Simple is better if you need express filing within 24 hours, excluding weekends and bank holidays.
  • Its secretarial plan may suit you better if you expect many changes in a year and want one yearly price for up to ten of them.
  • It may suit you better if you would rather an expert team prepares the statement and dormant accounts for you, as its bundle does.
