The confirmation statement fee

Every company pays £50 online or £110 on paper with its first confirmation statement in each 12-month payment period. If you file another statement in the same payment period, for example to update details early, there is no further fee.

The fee applies to dormant and non-trading companies too, because every company must file at least one confirmation statement a year. See how to file a confirmation statement for the steps.

Is there a Companies House fee to file annual accounts?

There is no Companies House fee for filing a UK company's annual accounts. The Companies House fees list, updated 25 September 2026, shows no fee for it. The only accounts-related fee on the list is an annual document processing fee paid with an overseas company's accounts, £50 online or £110 on paper.

Late accounts are a different matter. A late filing penalty is not a fee; it is an automatic penalty that starts at £150 for a private company.

The fees list also shows no fee for routine changes such as a new registered office address, a director appointment or resignation, or a change of year end.

Closing and restoring a company

Applying to strike off a company costs £13 online or £18 on paper, using form DS01. Before applying, read how to close a limited company, because the company must meet the conditions for strike-off first.

Bringing a dissolved company back through administrative restoration costs £341. That is only the Companies House fee: other filings or penalties may also need to be dealt with.

Changing your company name

A standard change of company name costs £20 online or through software, or £30 on paper. A same day change of name costs £85 online or through software. The full process, including the shareholder resolution, is in how to change a company name.

Keeping your home address off the register

If you want personal details, such as a home address, removed from documents already on the public register, the fees list shows a £34 paper application fee for each document suppressed. Our guide on how to remove your home address from Companies House explains who qualifies and how to apply. A separate application to stop a protected residential address being shared with credit reference agencies costs £100.

The cheapest step is often to avoid putting a home address on the register in the first place. Read can I use my home address as a registered office before you choose an address.

Common Companies House fee mistakes

Watch for these when budgeting for a filing:

  • Paying the confirmation statement fee twice. It is due once per 12-month payment period.
  • Assuming accounts cost money to file. There is no Companies House fee for a UK company's annual accounts.
  • Treating a late filing penalty as a fee. It is a penalty and has its own rules on appeals and payment.
  • Choosing paper without checking the price. Where the table shows both, the paper fee is higher than the online fee.
  • Mixing up a filing agent's charge with the government fee. They are always separate amounts.
